Emily Cody was born on 10 July 1853 to blacksmith Thomas Cody and his wife Emily Myson/Megan. Her godparents were P Kenny and Lucy Cullen. Emily grew up in Ballyhad, a small townland in the parish of Rathdrum, County Wicklow. She had three older siblings and seven younger ones, one of eleven children. Born at the end of the famine, Emily's childhood would have been tough. Her family was quite poor and having such a large family meant money was even more scarce.
In 1875, either Emily or her mother godparented for the child of Bridget Farrell of Rathdrum.
On 28 Oct 1879, Emily married a coachman from Bray named John Roachford. The union was witnessed by James Doyle and her sister Lizzie.
Her father Thomas died in 1880. Nothing has yet been found for the fate of Emily after she married in 1879.
