Hello, I’m trying to find records of Abina MURRAY nee DUGGAN. She’s on the 1911 census and I know she has her last child at the end of 1914 (my grandmother) when she was about 31, but her youngest child is brought up in a convent and Abina disappears. I believe she was a patient in Cork mental hospital, but cannot find any records, can anyone help?

Hi Cheryl:
Thank you for your query to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.
You might try to contact the Cork Genealogical Society which is very active and would have a good idea or some advice as to trying to access any records (+100 years old).
Their website address is: http://www.corkgenealogicalsociety.com/
Email for enquiries is: corkgensoc@gmail.com
Please let me know if there is anything further that I can do or if you have further questions.
The best of luck with your research.
Kind regards,
Jane

It's not uncommon for historical records to have gaps, especially in sensitive areas such as mental health. While finding records can be challenging, have you considered exploring alternative avenues for obtaining information? For your request for Cork Mental Hospital records, it may be helpful to contact local archives or historical societies. Speaking of health. If you are interested in natural supplements, you may want to consider mullein extract, which is known for its potential respiratory benefits and may help with overall health. You can find organic mullein drops for lung health on Amazon.

Thank you for sharing your story about Abina Murray née Duggan. Tracing family history can be both fascinating and challenging, especially when records are elusive. Have you tried reaching out to the National Archives of Ireland for additional census data or hospital records? Sometimes, older patient records may require special permissions or can be found through genealogical organizations like Irish Genealogy.ie or Roots Ireland. Also, if Cork mental hospital is now under a different name, its records may have been transferred to a local historical archive. Best of luck in your search – I hope you uncover more about Abina’s journey.
