Doyle family of Ballygalvert (in the civil parish of Templeludigan)

David and Bridget married on the 1st of May 1864 in St. Mullin's RC Parish , which is next to the parish of Killegney or Templeudigan - you can view the register on the National Library website at this link. The only other names are the witnesses John Doyle & Mary Kavanagh - early Catholic registers often do not include much detail. There appears to be a residence recorded for Bridget - looks like B_Bana (her surname is recorded as Keeffe).

The marriage is also included in civil records but would not be available on IrishGenealogy yet, a research cert from the GRO (€4) would include more detail such as residences of the bride and groom, father's names & occupations etc. FamilySearch has a partial extract which includes some details including the father's name - John Doyle & John Keefe - see this link.

There's no sign of the family at Ballygalvert townland in 1911, so appears they moved - finding them on the later census could be difficult due to the very common names.

Shane thanks for sharing the links....I had the date as 22 April...register is hard to read. Yes two of the names I have to contend with Doyle and Power on my mother maternal lines are sooo hard to track.

Yes I am thinking if they did not die young some or all may have emigrated.

I cannot find the death record of a particular ancestor who lived near Fennor, County Waterford. In the 1901/1911 Census Jeffrey (Geoffrey) Power a farmer and his wife lived at 4 and 6 Carrickvarhane, Pembrokestowne, County Waterford. However, I cannot then find their death records. It would appear he and Mary may have applied for Old Age Pension, which was introduced in 1908 for people aged 70+ who met certain financial conditions.

Without their death records I was wondering if there was a way to find out when their pensions ceased which I'm thinking would indicate when they died.

Any assitance or suggestions would be welcomed

There must have been some sort of records kept for the pensions but I dont know if these have survived or where they might have ended up. At that time Ireland was ruled from London, so it was UK acts of parliament that applied.

I would have thought a distinctive name like Jeffrey/Geoffrey should help a search, but when I double checked I also failed to find any death for him, maybe his death was not registered ?  There are many Mary Power deaths in the area, so the opposite problem -  a check of each one would be required to see if there's a possible match, e.g. place of death at Carrickavarahane townland, a known informant etc..

Two possible lines of investigation I think might be worth considering - 1. graveyards and headstones, if any of Jeffrey/Geoffrey & Mary's children died in the same area then look for their deaths to confirm exact date, then check for a newspaper death notice to see if a cemetery is mentioned. If the family had a plot with headstones then dates could be mentioned for Jeffrey/Geoffrey & Mary. 2- the second possible method would currently require a visit to the Valuation Office in Dublin to check the Property Revision books. These should give an approximate date based on the last year Jeffrey/Geoffrey or Mary is shown at the property.

Thanks Shane. Problem is that as you say the Power surname is a nightmare to track in this location. The other problem is I am living in England so a visit to the valuation office is a challenge.

As far as I can work out the family farm was a going concern in 1901 but then they moved and it was being wound down. They had one son who moved to Cardiff before the 1911 census and it looks like their nephew was helping out in 1911. One daughter had married and moved away. The other daughters get lost in the 'needle in a haystack'  of how do you find Mary, Kate and Bridget Power. There were 58 Mary's born in the County the same year as mine.

Hello they may not be connected, but my maternal great grandfather named James Joseph Doyle was born in 1911 in St Mulllins New Ross Co Carlow, and that very year the entire family immagrated to Australia where I live today. James Joseph was son to William Doyle & Bridget Keating married 1907 Carlow Ireland. Could be connected I cannot find Anything passed William Doyle.
