Hello,  I have posted before in the Ardcarn Parish as my GG Grandfather Patrick Geraghty married Elizabeth “LIzzie” Logan and we know she was born there in 1844.

I am looking for help in finding out where Patrick was born in Roscommon.  I found his father “Luke” on a Tithe applotment for 1858 in Tumna, his last name though was spelled Gaharty.  We understand Lukes wife and Patrick’s Mother was Catherine Moran, but also known as Mary, so she might well be Mary Catherine.

I have no records of any siblings for Patrick.  I located a Griffiths valuation for Ardcarn that listed a Luke Gerty, and John Moran as tennents on the same land and have seen Patrick’s name spelled Gerty but am going round in circles.

Does this ring any bells with anyone?

Sincerely, Morag McLean nee Garrity

  • Hi. Do you know where your great grandmother was born?  It’s interesting that her name was Francis because my Dad, grand dad and great grand dad all were James Francis Garrity. My GGGrandmother Katherine Moran would have been born around 1805-1815.  But it’s possible there is a link.

  • Frank Moran married Jane Clarke. Their son, Nicholas (1794 – 1868) married Anne Corley (1786 – 1875), whose daughter was Kate Geraghty (nee Moran) (1837 - 1879). She was the wife of Patrick Geraghty (1822 – 1908) and his parents were Michael Geraghty and Anne Geraghty (nee Naughton).

  • Hi There,

I am also related to Patrick Geraghty (1822-1908)  married to "Kate" Moran, and many of the names mentioned in the correspondence are the same, but others don't quite match up.

My extensive family tree goes back to the 1700's.

But to add some mix to the pot, you might like to refer to the Message Board under "Geraghty from Roscommon", where a researcher, signing in as "Davepat"  covers a great deal of the Geraghty/Moran links, together with all of his research references.

He is communicating with one of my recently found extended family members.

    It might help!
