Hi fellow researchers,
Reaching out for help or a lookup for me using Roots Ireland as I understand they are the only ones with birth/baptism records on line for the time period in question. There is/are no roots library edition yet.
As such I am asking for the groups' help to do a look-up please for the names below. Please do a search of the name Reddam with variations such as Redham as the spelling depended on the priest or the person who did the transcription.
William did not go by Jr. or Sr., I use it to tell them apart.
Throuygh this site i have connected with my Boston relatives. This will open it up to a lot more.
Now we have more siblings to have looked up. Our only connection so far is the listing in census and other records in USA that they are from Sligo and all share the same parents names: (The about dates are due to age listed in the documents rather then a date)
William Reddam Sr. of Sligo and wife Maria or Mary Giblin family
Catherine -b. abt 1831-ended up in MA
Timothy - b. abt 1834-ended up in MA
Patrick - b. Sept 8 1836, ended up in MA
William Jr. b.or baptized Sept 15 1840, ended up in Windsor
Margaret b. or baptised Nov 6 1843- ended up unknown.
thanks so much in advance,
Ron Reddm jr.

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
I looked on Roots Ireland and only located transcriptions for the youngest two children. Likely the older three were baptized in a parish that no longer has records back to the 1830s.

Thank-you very much. It is very appreciated. You are too kind and generous.
It is the best we could ask as all we know that the others stated Sligo and noted the same parents names so we had to assume the same church.
Any possibility you can send me a copy of those two records please to rr22eddaam@yahoo.ca
Any other info. or data appreciated too. Anything we can help you with in Canada or USA?
regards,
Ron Reddam Jr.

We are encouraged to stay within the IRO systerm rather than writing to personal e-mail addresses. I won't be able to send you a copy of the actual records. The parish register for St. Johns Sligo starts in 1858. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0550 Roots Ireland was able to locate earlier records back to 1831 but they did not provide a way to see the actual register. Sorry!
I live near Maryland.

Dear Roger in Maryland,
thnks i understand. the public records yes start in 1858 but Roots has them earlier hence the request. an you cut and paste to the IRO?
sending to email=Just want to be safe as I have been told that it is not safe to request info from Roots lookups as it is aginst thier terms and conditions. Do not wnt to get anybody in trouble. Roots has no library edition yet like thier competitors do. It s a tease to say they have the record then charge a fortune to see transcriptions and not actual. Not all transcrips are accurate. At this point I will accept anything anyway possible. Somr people feel more secure by direct e-mail. This is too open.

Here is a little history about the parish registers on the National Library site. In the early 1950s, a decision was made to microfilm all available parish registers for the NLI. They only microfilmed records available up to 1880/1881 because they were concerned about the privacy of people older than 70 or so. (Some of the annotations on the registers show illegitimate). Those microfilm copies stayed in the NLI in Dublin for viewing for many years. When the Roots Ireland organization started much later, some of the parishes found earlier records than was was provided to the NLI in the early 1950s. Not sure why but it happened. More recently about three years ago the NLI microfilm was digitized and placed online for free viewing but there is no centralized search function. So if you know the parish for your ancestors e.g. Sligo you could scan the register to see if you could locate records up to 1880. If you only knew the county then you had a lot of registers to scan thru.
I agree that not all transcriptions are accurate but from my work over the years, they did not make too many mistakes.

While there is a possibility of different prishes in Sligo being used it would seem unlikely if all records found point to one parish for the family. Thanks for looking and history, have viewed records but what i wanted was earlier then what is avialable on-line free and the only organization that stated they had them was Roots Ireland starting in 1830 for Sligo. A search shows that they had records for the names listed so they exist but are not available free unless/ even in library mode like thier competitorshave hence the request for a look-up. I contacted Roots who stated they are looking at a library subscription later in year. Too bad you cannot get a copy or scan of the records they say they trnscribed. Getting actual records or scans of them of showed some spelling errors, hence the request to search with variations. Knowinf they exist or a digital scan makes it more accurate if ordered or further research. Some names were in latin and some trsnscribed in english. I have had lookups done in past that did not match the digital scan. Not all genealogy companies are equal for accuracy or transcriptions. Sometimes we have no choice.
