Kepple Elias Disney (1832–1891) was born in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. He was the eldest son of Arundel Elias Disney (1801-1880) and Maria Swan.
Kepple married Mary Richardson (1838–1909) with whom he had a son named Elias (1859-1941). This Elias (born in the Village of Bluevale, Ontario) would later become the father of the famous Walt Disney.
It certainly wasn’t easy to get ahead in the new world and the family had a tough time trying to make ends meet in what was then a very harsh wilderness. Always in search of something more, Kepple Disney tried many ways to find success.
In 1878, Kepple moved his family to California (in pursuit of the gold rush) but ended up buying a farm in Ellis, Kansas en route and trying his hand as an orange grower without much success. Elias lived in California and Ellis, Kansas, and in Colorado and in Florida before moving with his family to Chicago.
Walter Elias Disney was ultimately born on December 5, 1901, in Hermosa, Illinois and the rest, they say, is history...
