I am searching for information on my great-great grandparents. Their names were John Donaghy and Jane Hanlon. Their marriage record was found in the Ireland, Catholic Parish Records. They were married on 7 April 1845. The marriage place was Dungannon, Tyrone and Armagh, Ireland. The Parish Variants are Drumglass, Killyman, and Tullyniskin. The Diocese is Armagh.
The only other information I have been able to find is their passenger record to America. They sailed from Belfast on the ship Emma Searle, arriving in New York on 4 May 1849. They sailed with their two sons, William, my great-grandfather and an infant, John, who was born on the ship and died before they got to New York. They probably lived in Brooklyn, but I lost them there. I did find William living in Brooklyn years later, as an adult. The last name became Donahue in New York
I am hoping to find the parents of John and Jane. It seems there were both Donaghy’s and Hanlon’s in Killyman. I also saw a William and John in Congo. I am unable to find which Donaghy family John belongs to. I would like to know if Jane or John had siblings or if they had any other children. I did find a baptism record for another John Donaghy, 20 Feb 1847, who was born to John and Jane Donaghy.
I would appreciate any information about them. I have been working on my family tree and I would love to have additional generations to add.
Many thank in advance.

Diane,
The names a re pretty common in the Dungannon area. You would really need to try and get their parents names from death certificates in the USA to have a chance of tracing their baptisms. Note that, assuming they were born in that parish, Dungannon RC baptisms only start in 1821 so if either was born before that, there won’t be a record. Plus your research backwards will likely come to a stop at that point anyway due to the lack of records in Ireland.
Did John leave a will which might perhaps have mentioned relatives in Ireland?

Thank you so much for your reply..
Getting a death certificate has been a problem in the US. I believe they stayed in Brooklyn and there are so many Donohue’s in Brooklyn that I don’t know which one he could be. I will look again and see if I can find someone that is the right age.
Perhaps, I should be happy with the information that I have.
Thanks for you help.

His Diane: My FamiilyTreeDNA Big Y-700 has me closely linked to Donaghy/Donaghey in West Tyrone. I am beginning to suspect that, as was not uncommon, my great-great-grandfather Thomas Donahue was actually a Donaghey who changed his name to Donahue upon arrival in America. Haven't finalized the link yet (waiting on Thomas Clark Donaghey's Big Y-700 test results in a few weeks) but FTDNA already has us both as Y-DNA haplogroup R-Y132147. I will wait until Tom's Big Y-700, but I am on the verge of declaring that we are Doinaghy's not Donohues. (Note: Donahue/Donohue is not a Tyrone name. Geographically, the closest family of the 7 or 8 unrelated Donohue families in Ireland is in Cavan.

P.S. My Donahues are all in greater Philadelphia.
