Hello, I'm trying to find information on my grandmother's family, who lived in Killahan. Michael & Mary Connor were my grandmother's maternal grandparents, and they had three children, Bridget (my gran's mother), John and James. (I know this from family members, although I have been unable to find records of these three children being born to the same Michael and Mary Connor.) Michael died in Killahan in 1884. Bridget Connor married Thomas Reil (Ryle/Real/Raiel...) in 1891 (the witnesses were James Brosnan and Jeremiah Lawlor) and I believe they lived with Mary Connor in Killahan after they married. In the 1901 census Mary (head of household) is shown as living with Bridget, Thomas and their children, and with her own son, John, at house number 19 in Killahan. In 1908 Mary's daughter, Bridget, died at Killahan and I believe she was buried at Kiltomy cemetery although I have never found a grave. Sometime between 1908 and the 1911 census, Thomas moved with his children to Ballysheen where he had lived before marriage. However, Mary is not shown as living with them in the 1911 census, nor is she shown at Killahan. I can't find a death record that seems likely to be her for any time between 1901 and 1911 either. I have visited the valuation office in Dublin, and the revision books show her occupying the house in Killahan until 1913 when her name is struck through and replaced by "Goggins". I do have family still living in the area but no-one seems to have any knowledge of what happened to Mary Connor. Her son James married and went to America to live, and her other (youngest?) child, John, known as John O'Connor, remained in Ballysheen with his in-laws until his death in 1947. I believe he and other members of our family worked at Lawlors farm. I would dearly love to find out more about Mary Connor and what happened to her, and indeed about any of this family. Perhaps anyone remembers Johnno, who may have reminisced about his family history at some point....Thanks for any help!
