Looking for the mother of Samuel Hunter who was born in Scotland in 1855. Father was James Hunter. Samuel married Annie Wilson in 1877 in Antrim and they had 10 children, 3 of whom were born in Scotland. Most of the children went to America. Annie's father was William Wilson, carpenter.

Samuel died in 1939 and is buried in the 1st Killymurris Presbyterian Cemetery.  The family lived in Dunminning where Samuel was a farmer.

I can find his father's name but not his mother's name.

  • 1.  If you know the district he was born you can go to that registry office and ask for a copy of his birth certificate which lists both mother and father, and usually the date the parents were married.   This jwould be the best bet.

    2.  Alternatively you can join the "Scotlands People" site and try to trace from there, it is a pay site and sometimes you get another person with the same name, so be aware of this.

    Good luck.

  • If Samuel was born in 1855, it was a very good year to have been born in Scotland. It was the first year of statutory birth registration and the birth certificates for that year only, contain a lot of extra information (later dropped as it was too time consuming). So they contain details of where and when the child’s parents were married, where and when the parents were born and how many other children they had, alive and dead. You can view the certificates on-line on Scotlandspeople at about £1.60 each.
