Patrick Stone was born on the 14th of March 1854 in Buncrana in the civil parish of Fahan Lower in County Donegal. His father, James Stone, was an army private who had served in the Britsh Army in India and Afghanistan. When the British government made the decision to begin transporting convicts to Australia, Patrick's father was given the role of Pensioner Guard, which meant that he guarded the convicts on their voyage.
The Stone family moved to Freemantle in Western Australia, which they reached by travelling on board the convict ship William Hammond. They later relocated to a farm in Greenough.
As an adult, Patrick first established himself as a shop keeper. He made a great success of this career and expanded into hotel and mill ownership. Patrick married Helen Emily Roe on the 8th of February 1880.
In the 1890's and early 1900's, Patrick became involved in politics, and, after a number of unsuccessful attempts, won a seat on the Greenough in the Western Australia Legislative Assembly.
Throughout his political career, Patrick held a number of local and regional seats.
Patrick Stone died on the 23rd of December 1926 and is buried in Geraldton Cemetery.
