The 41st All-Ireland Football Final was held in Croke Park on the 30th of September 1928.
The teams involved were Kildare and Cavan, with Kildare winning the match by 1 point.
This was the first time that the now famous Sam Maguire Cup was presented to the winning team.
The Sam Maguire is modelled on the Ardagh Chalice, a religious vessel dating to the 8th Century which is on permanent display at the National Museum of Archaeology in Leinster House.
