John McKee was born in 1806 in County Down. He had a brother, James. He married Margaret Roadie and they had 2 children, Thomas, and William.
In 1847, they left their 2 children with John's parents and left to go to St. John, NB, Canada during the famine. After settling in St. John, they sent for the children and John's parents. They eventually made their way to northern Maine.
