On the 1st of April, 1919, Eamonn DeValera was elected as the President of the first ever Dáil Éireann. 

This first sitting of the Dáil convened until 1921. 

After the May 1921 elections, the second Dáil was convened. 

Neither the first nor the second Dáils were recognised by the British government.
