Patrick Maley's father was Thomas C Maley and we believe they came from Limerick City. Patrick Maley would end up serving in the 68. Indiana Infantry in the Civil War. He was captured and held as a prisoner at Andersonville. He would live in Metamora, Indiana but would end up moving to Elwood, Indiana where he would live the rest of his life. His decendants remain there to this day.

I descend from Patrick's brother, Michael. Thomas and his wife, Mary Noonan, had a son Edmund born in Mountshannon January 14, 1847. A final son, Thomas Jr. was born about 1849. Believe Thomas arrived in US about 1849, but mar came later with the children after Thomas set up lad purchase in Indiana. The catholic priest in Mountshannon was sent there to build the catholic church nam was Patrick O'Malley who might be a brother to Thomas. There could possibly be a relationship to John Young, Bishop ofLimerick, whose mother was Mary Cahill. Debbie Fall, Indiana

Hello Debbie sorry for the late reply on here. Thank you first and foremost for sharing about your descendant's story that you know. What actually brought me here is I was doing some digging around on my Maley heritage again and while checking one of the databases to see if I could gain any more information, but I found instead a mention of Michael Maley being held in Andersonville which by the grave information, matched his company and regiment he served in during the war. He seems to have been captured, possibly the same Battle of Chickamauga that Patrick Maley was wounded and captured at. Have you come across any records of him being held at Andersonville before or being taken prisoner of war? Quite the fascinating family history if true to have two brothers sent to Andersonville and surviving to return home.

To user_157721 yes that is my Michael Maley! He served with his brother, Patrick. My brother is the history buff, not me. He has extensively researched and then traveled the trail that these brothers traversed, much of it walking and lugging firearms and cannons. The weather and conditions were horrible.
