Hi.  

I am searching for information on my great-grandmother, Sarah Keane, who left Robertstown abt 1865 as an infant and emigrated to the US.  Her parents were John L Keane, and Elizabeth (Brown or Browne) Keane..  

John's parents were Peter Keane and Sally Whelan, both born in 1815.  Their youngest child appears to be Michael, born in 1837 so I would guess they were married around 1835. I have been unable to locate any marriage information on them.  

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.  Our family visited Robertstown about 2002, and had lunch and a pint or two at a newly opened restaurant on the canal.  We did not have time to conduct any research but did enjoy meeting the owner and several patrons.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

    The records for Allen RC parish go back to 1820 so if Peter and Sarah were married  in that church then likely the record should be available but it is not indlcuded on the data base of the subscription site Roots Ireland. My guess is that Sarah was from a nearby parish e.g. Caragh which does not have records back to 1835-1836.

    You mention that Michael was the youngest child but I assume you meant oldest since he is the oldest of at least nine children of Peter and Sarah.

    I searched the 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Kildare but did not see a listing for a Peter Keane.

    The only baptismal record I could find on the subscription site Roots Ireland was an 1862 baptismal record for an Anne Keane. I also located the marriage record. Is it possible that Sarah was born at sea or in America. We don't have access to the Allen parish register for the 1860s to see if there was a gap in records. Roots Ireland does not show a gap.
