I have a statement from a Father Boyle in 1871 about a baptismal record for a Michael Farrell in 1851 or possibly 1852. I would appreciate some advice as to which of the modern parishes in the NLI records this would correspond to.
Thanks

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Hillstreet or Hill Street is northeast of Elphin town and close to the Co. Leitrim border. The civil parish is Aughrim. There is an RC parish Aughrim/Kilmore but I don't see an 1851-1852 baptismal record for a Michael Farrell in that parish. There is a Michael Farrell 1851 baptismal record in Elphin RC parish. Can yoiu share the document that you have? What were the parents names?

Hi Roger,
Many thanks for the information.
What I have is just a report of the entry in the registers produced by a Father Thomas O'Boyle PP some 20 years later in 1871. The mother should be Catherine Beirne and the father John Farrell. I think that the family might have been living at Ballagh (the one near Hill Street). The records for Aughrim go a long way back so is there any reason why a particular entry should be missing? Is there any record of who the parish priests were at Aughrim?
I would appreciate some idea as to whether there were several parishes in the vicinity at which children might have been baptised
cheers

Here is the link to the Aughrim parish register for part of the 19th century https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0539 On the right hand side you will see a map with Aughrim highlighted and the nearby parishes including the ones in Co. Leitrim. I also provide you with the link to the Diocese of Elphin Diocese https://www.elphindiocese.ie/ They may have records regarding 19th century priests at Aughrim parish. The other link is to the parish of Aughrim
