St Mochulla is the patron saint of Tulla parish in East County Clare. He was built a church at the top of the hill of Tulla in or about 620 where he and his disciples lived in a monastic settlement. The settlement included a church with a rath built around it to protect it. This rath can still be seen today in photos of the Tulla graveyard by drone.
A book about the life of St Mochulla was writen by a monk in Limerick in 1141.
St. Mochulla was noted as a miracle worker and there are many legends associated with him including his famous bull. There are also 15 holy wells associated with him and one of these is located just below the Old Boys' School in Tulla (pictured above). The well pictured is noted to be known for its power to heal sore eyes. The flagstone at the front of the well is said to bear the marks of St. Mochulla's knee. This well has been restored by the local community and is still accessible today.
Feast days associated with St. Mochulla include the 23rd of March and the 23rd of June.
