John Thompson : Short Biography

I was informed in 2009 that the churchwarden kindly searched the baptisms for John and that in the baptism records for the 1st Newtownhamilton Presbyterian Church dated 1833-1860 there was a John Thompson recorded as being born on January 1st 1840 to a John Thompson and a Margaret McMahon who were residing in Tullyvallen a townland of the district parish of Kilcluney. 

• Rev David Brown kept records of a visit to John Thompson and Margaret Thompson in South Tullyvallen with their first child Margaret born 10 Jul 1838.

• John and Margaret had another daughter named Margaret on 14 Apr 1845.

• There are no other Johns born to John Thompson in the Tullyvallen records.

John was a blacksmith and married Isabella Kyle in 1867 in Kilclooney Parish church (see "File information" below).  His father, John, is described as a labourer. They emigrated to the Glasgow area. There they had children: Margaret, William, John, Ann Jane, Sarah, Elizabeth, John, Isabella, Mary, Christina Livingstone, Minnie.
