My great great Grandmother was baptized Margaret Connor in Kilmurry, Cork on May 13th 1821, the daughter of Catherine Mahoney and Cornelius Connor.
Sometime before 1852, (I know a long jump, still looking for a record) she was married to a Howard (there is a family of John Howard in Kilmurry cemetery, he probably a member of this family, would like to make contact), Then widowed or left in 1852 and is "married" (looks like common law, no record of a marriage in England or Ireland) to a widower from Kilmurry then in Stepney, London Thomas Murray (son of Jeremiah and Julia [Murphy] Murray). Thomas had a Daughter, 3 years old called Jane, with his first wife Jane (AKA Mary) Neville also from Kilmurry. First marriage in Kilmurry 1845. Jane daughter born Stepney, London 1847. Jane (AKA Mary) Neville dead January 1852.
Margaret (now Howard, widowed? No children) turns up in Stepney, London in 1852 and gives birth to my Great Grandmother Catherine Murray (she did the Irish thing, named her daughter after her Mother) on August 28th 1853. Former name on Catherine's birth certificate is "Howard." At Catherine's Baptism in October 1853, at a former RC Chapel in Wapping, Margaret gives her "maiden" name as "Connor".
Thomas is dead 1863 aged 44 from Typhus fever and Margaret is widowed "again." Here she disappears from most records, although she could be a Margaret Murray in a number of local workhouses, until November 1885 when she is admitted to Bow Workhouse and then transferred to Hommerton Workhouse in 1886, where she died on August 26th 1886 aged 65.
The loss of Thomas must had been tragic, here she was a long way from home, with a 10 year old daughter and 14 year old step daughter. She can neither read nor write, she made her "X" on Thomas death certificate and Catherine's birth certificate. In the Workhouse at Bow she is doing the laundry.
(I am happy to share/exchange details)
