Mary J. Fitzpatrick, my great-grandmother, was born in Derryvoney, Drumlane, Co. Cavan, in 1857 to Ellen McIntyre and Daniel Fitzpatrick. She was baptized 24 March 1857. Her mother, Ellen McIntyre, may have been from the townland of Lagan in Drumlane.

In addition to Mary, Ellen and Daniel Fitzpatrick's children included:

  • Patrick m. (1) Ann Bannon, (2) Bridget, (3) Johanna Ryan

  • James (aka James Fitch) m. Florence Partridge

  • Owen

  • Daniel

  • Catherine

  • Ellen m. George Honeyman

  • Rose

  • and perhaps Sarah and Bernard.

The Fitzpatrick family (parents Ellen and Daniel, Mary, and the first seven children in the above list) emigrated to New York, sailing from Liverpool on the ShipThornton in March 1863. It was a trip that would last 41 days. During the voyage, Mary's mother, Ellen, died at the age of 48 and was buried at sea.

Mary Fitzpatrick married my great-grandfather, Charles Mansfield, at St. Stephen's Church on E. 29th St. in Manhattan on 2 June 1884. The officiant was Rev. Edward Downey.

The couple had three children:

  • Ella Mansfield (1885-1887)

  • Charles Mansfield (my grandfather) (1890-1935) m. (1) Anna Lowndes, (2) Alice Kirkwood

  • Joseph Mansfield (1895-1946?) m. Mary Crowe

Mary Fitzpatrick Mansfield died on 3 October 1934. Her funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Queens Village, NY. She was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Queens, NY.
