  • When John King married Mary Anglim in 1838, Nicholas Prendergast of Iragh was a witness- the landowner was Gore.

Prendergast was also a character witness for Edward King, a brother of John who arrived in Victoria in 1844- so perhaps the brothers worked for Prendergast..Patrick and Ellen were the parents of John and Edward

John and Mary arrived in Victoria with their daughter Catherine in 1841.Another daughter Ellen travelled to join her parents in 1848

A number of Clare children were brought to Sydney and Melbourne to join their families, bounty immigrants, in 1848.When their parents had travelled earlier, extra fares had to be paid for all siblings.

Ellen King ,along with a number of Clare children travelled to Plymouth , then sailed to Australia. The journey, well documented was well supervised- but surely a daunting experince for the young ones, who had to leave those caring for them in Ireland. The project was  organised, with others, by Caroline Chisholm.
