Little is known about John Prossor other than he is the father of Anthony (1792-1872) who became a merchant and emigrated to England. It is thought that the Prossors were either in Ireland or came to Ireland at about the time of the Battle of the Boyne. There is a record of a Prossor publican in Finglas in the mid 1600s and it is said that two Prossor brothers fought for King William. Anthony Prossor was born in Cashel. There are other Prossors in Co Tipperary at the time, including Clonmel, where there was a Prossor clockmaker. More at www.bramhill.net.
