Mary lived at Cappacluherane near Ardgroom. Born Mary Harrington, from Eyeries, she married Patrick McCarthy. They had two children John and Marie, who spent little time with their father growing up, as he travelled out twice to work for long periods of time in the copper mines of Butte, Montana. He returned a couple of years before he died. Their third child, Margaret, died when a few months old, just days after Patrick died in February 1926.
