Kennedy Family.

Ruth:

The RC parish for Ballymackey civil parish would be Toomevara. Records for that parish start in the 1830-1831 time period.

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and located Martin's baptismal record as follows:

Martin baptized November 13 1833  Toomevara RC parish parents Cornelius Kennedy and Honor Peters  sponsors Patrick Morkan Margaret Redihan   Knockane  townland

Knockane townland is actually in Templedowney civil parish which borders Ballymackey parish.

I also located a baptismal record for Cornelius, however, the mother's name was different

Cornelius Kennedy September 6 1839 Toomevara parish parents Cornelius Kennedy and  Bridget Kennedy sponsorsJohn Donoughoe Mrs. Anne Hogan

I also located one other interesting marriage record. Roots Ireland had a February 21 1811 marriage in Drom RC parish between a Cornelius Kennedy and a Bridget Peters

Drom RC parish borders Toomevara to the southeast

Is it possible that Bridget Peters and Honora Peters were the same person? They possibly had a number of children between 1811-1833, Martin was born in 1833 and Cornelius was a late in life child? The other option is that Cornelius and Honora married right before 1830 and the 1811 marriage was for a different couple.

Thank you so much for all that info. I need some time to take it all on board but really appreciate what you have done. I'm actually doing this for a friend and will also talk to her about it. One of the problems I have found is that the same chritian names are repeated down the line and sometimes it's confusing as to which person we are talking about. I will be back in touch though,

Thanks again for your help. Having spent some time looking at the info you sent, It sounds to me that Honor and Brodget Peters could be the same person. The dates you have there match up more closely with the info I have been given Is there any way of proving this? Is there a marriage entry for Cornelius and Bridget at a later date as I feel that 1811 is far to early for this family. Or maybe that marriage was of Grandparents??  If so, maybe Bridget used the nam Honor up until the other bridget had died to prevent confusion and then reverted to Bridget. Confused? So am I!! I'm sure there were other children in the family but don't have any names. I'm not sure if this is of much help but just suggesting options!!

No other Cornelius Kennedy marriages to a Peters in North Tipperary after 1811. I also checked in Co. Offaly because Offaly borders Tipperary in that area and again no marriage. It is always possible the Cornelius Kennedy/Honor Peters marriage was around 1830 but was held in a parish that no longer has records back that far. Many possibilities!

Thank you for that Roger. I guess it's possible that they got married in another parish which doesn't really help me very much but that's ok. My friend has been away but I will check in with her next week sometime and meantime see if I can find another lead somewhere. 

You're doing a great job. It would be great if some other countries had a similar service.

Martin kennedy actually died in 1916. He was my great great great great grandfather. I am a direct descendant of his and can maybe assist any further information you may wish to know.

What a lovely New Year's surprise your message was. I have been in touch with my friend and she is very excited at the prospect of finding out more about her Irish roots. Martin was her great, great grandfather and you are right regarding the date of his death. There are several Martin Kennedys on our BDM sight and I had estimated his death from information I had been given.
