Born in Particles, County Limerick before Kilfinane Catholic church had baptismal records.  Arrived in the US shortly after the birth of a daughter, Bridget, in 1853 (Bulgaden parish baptism 11 Sep).  Went to Petersburg, VA where his siblings had settled.  Fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War.  He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Roanoke Island (NC). He caught pneumonia while a prisoner and died.
