My great great great grandfather, Cornelius O’Reilly, was born in Mullagh, Cavan, in 1806, and immigrated to Albany, New York, with his wife and children around 1850. He died there in 1854. Could William and Cornelius be connected?

I, too, have been searching for O’Reillys. I know I have one ancestor born near the time of your William.
Henry O’Reilly, Sr
b. 1 Feb 1798 County Armagh, Ireland
d. 17 June 1879 Grey County, Canada
m. 18 Jan 1835
He emigrated to Ontario Canada in the early 1820s and settled in Grey County, Ontario.
The reason I’m contacting you is because the names of his children. My Henry O’Reilly’s father was William, whose father might be John, but I’m not sure
He married Bridget Grimes in Ontario
His children are: John Henry, James, Margaret, Anne, Henry, Mary. As you can see, some names are the same which makes me think my Henry and your William might be related - even brothers
It may be that Henry, William, Anne, Margaret, etc. might simply be common names of the time…
My O’Reilly family branch are Roman Catholic, not Protestant.
I hope my information can help you find out more about your family
Cheers, Jean
