My gr gr uncle, John J. Sullian aka Jack born in Knocknagashel, Kerry, Ireland, emigrated to San Francisco, California in 1883, supposedly died in 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. I can find no primary source information regarding his death. I know from a letter my gr gr father wrote that my Jack lived at 515 Howard Street in San Francisco and was a lumberman. It appears he did not marry but I really don't know what happens after 1906. Where would I find a newspaper articale that may be in County Kerry? Thank you for any assistance. Carol Cox

Hello Carol,
What year was your John J. born? I see death records on Ancestry for several John Sullivans who died in 1906, though none at the time of the earthquake. Having his birth year might help identify him.
Thanks.

John J. O'Sullivan was born January 1852 (according to 1900 US census). He was still single in 1900. He emigrated in 1883. I have always researched his arriving into New York. But this post has had folks in San Francisco mention other Sullivan's in SF so he may have been joining family. Since Panama Canal was not yet built, I guess you could travel around Africa but that sounds like a ridiculously long trip. Thank you your help means the world to me!!
