William Salter was born abt. 1780 in County Kilkenny or possibly County Carlow to William Salter and his wife Martha Edwards. He married Elizabeth Willoughby abt. 1802 in Co. Kilkenny, possibly in the parish of Ossory and they had at least the following children: John, Margaret, William, Jane, Alice, and Peter. Jane is my great great grandmother. The family emigrated to Upper Canada (Lanark County) in 1822 settling in Beckwith Township. They moved to Montague Township in the 1830s. William died in abt 1863 in Beckwith Township.
