I was wondering if any-one can trace a grave in Shanagolden for me please. Garda Sergeant Patrick J Garvey died in Dec 1964 and is buried in Shanagolden Cemetery. Patrick was born in 1901 in Ballyrath, Co Armagh and became a Garda Sergeant after it's inception. He married in 1935 to Mary O'Donnell of Kildorrery, Co Cork and they had two sons and a daughter. Patrick was very athletic and organised open sports events in Milford where he was serving in 1935. He had been in Shanagolden for 30 years at the time of his death.

  • Margaret, Death Notice - Irish Independent dated December 7th 1964 - Page 24 - records the sudden death at his home on the 6th of Sergeant Patrick J. Garvey. Funeral today - Monday - to local cemetery after Mass at 1.00 p.m. The local cemetery is possibly Knockpatrick. You should write to the Member-in-Charge, Garda Siochana, Shanagolden who will be aware of any member who was serving in the locality in December 1964. Regards,
