Finding a house of ancestors

They lived in the townland of Lisvarrinane. The number 3 was not their address; it was the third house enumerated. The exact location of the house is not given on the 1901 census.

Thanks so I guess it’s impossible to find where they lived.

It's also visible on Google Earth, if you search for Lisvarrinane. The townland is about a mile square, with only a few remaining farmsteads shown on Google Earth, although the townland appears to also include a small portion of the neighboring town (actually, just a hamlet) which is also called Lisvarrinane. If you end up visiting, you might well find someone living there who can tell you where the Cleary family lived, or maybe even some descendants.

Hi, When you look at the census page, you looked at Household Return (Form A). If you pick up the house number as Patricia says it's not an actual house number, look for Household and Building Return (Form B1). Look down the list.....for number 3. Then look down the list for a Church or School or Public house. It was 10 properties away from the Church, it will also be hard to identify now, as things have moved on, some properties where extended into another and others demolished. In 1911 they are now house number 10. Sadly their page for Form B1 has not been uploaded. Back further...... Griffiths Valuation. Do you know Denis's fathers name? There is a Thomas Cleary in 1851 in the same townland. https://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/single_layer/i8.php?lat=&longt… When you open this link, you will see a red oblong, zoom in slow, you will see on the right CLONBEG, where you see the "O" zoom in a bit closer, you will see the Church, look north and you will see a wooded area with a number 13, just above that is number 6. That is where Thomas Cleary is listed. The Black areas and numbers are from the Tithe records 1823 to 1837, the red is Griffiths so you can see the difference is areas. Sorry is I have bored you to death but you did ask. It took me a while to find how these two sites worked. Maybe a local may tell you more. Margot
