Hi,

I am looking for more information regarding a marriage between Owen Murphy and Margaret Keirns/Kearins on 16 April 1866 Roman Catholic Chapel of Geevagh, Ballyfarnan District,  Boyle Union, Sligo, Ireland.

Owen Murphy was born about 1842.

I am hoping the actual marriage record can be viewed as I believe Margaret was a widow. If s he was a widow at marriage to Owen, can the previous marriage be located.

Owen and Margaret had daughter Ann born 31 January 1867 Ballyfarnan,  Sligo, Ireland.

Ann married Andrew Connelly 2nd March 1889, Castleconnor, Sligo, Ireland.

Andrew died 21 September 1943 Detroit, Wayne, Michigan USA but family had been in Scotland.

As Andrew was a widower upon emigration to USA, Ann probably passed away in Scotland between Census  1911 and 1921 Scotland.

I did locate a death record but mother's maiden name differs. This is why I am looking for another marriage for Margaret.

 Hoping someone can assist me.

 Thanking You,

 Kindest Regards,

 Katja

  • Katja,

Unable to identify the address "Tap". It appears that where one of the parties was not from the parish of Geevagh, their address was included in the entry.

Parish record for Eugene (Owen) and Margaret attached.

You will need to contact the Parish Priest to get details of Margaret's first husband

  • Here are baptisms for two Murphy children.  The second, Peter, says his mother is Beirns, but as the sponsor is Kerins, I believe this is likely a mistranscription. (From rootsireland).

  • What was the maiden name of Andrew's mother? With that info, we may be able to find first marriage of Margaret.

  • Hi Patricia,

Thankyou you so much for all this information  and assistance.

I believe Margaret's maiden name was Keirins as her father was listed as Patrick Keirins.

Usually, the first husband's surname is kept b y widow and used as surname for the next marriage. Maybe it was different at this time.

I know Ann Connelly (nee Murphy) died between the two Scottish Census records of 1911 and 1921 but only death I located on Scotland's People site was one at Carnwath in 1914. On this record mother's maiden name listed as Cullen.

I thought maybe this could have been the surname of Margaret's first husband or otherwise not Ann's death record.

Ann Connelly (nee Murphy) had several children but one son, Patrick born Castleconnor,  Sligo, Ireland born 1891...cannot locate his death. He was on Irish Census with family in 1901 but not on the 1911 or 1921 Scottish Census records with siblings.

Patrick is the only child of Andrew Connelly and Ann Murphy I couldn't find further information on. Other siblings emigrated to USA .

     Have a great evening,

     Kindest Regards,

     Katja
