| New Type | Maurice immigrated to Canada in the early 1850's, family lore indicates he landed in Montreal, Lower Canada, (now Quebec) where he met fellow immigrate Ellen McNamara. After a short time working in Montreal they traveled to Upper Canada, (now Ontario) and were married in Port Hope in 1856. They traveled further in Ontario, settling in the Niagara region and raising a family of 7 children. Maurice is said to come from County Kilkenny and Ellen from County Tipperary. | |
