This Patrick Gill, who may or not be a relative of my great grandfather Patrick Gill, is supposed to be from Mayo, Ireland. He is supposed to have been aged 32 when he arrived in NZ in 1860. The only Patrick Gill I can find in the at period in Mayo was born in 1833. This would make him only 27 when he arrived in NZ.
Patrick and Bridget Costello are said to have first eloped to India, where Patrick served in the army during the Indian Mutiny. Their son Thomas was born in 1852 in Kanpur, north India.
They seem to have married in 1843. If Bridget was born in 1830, in Galway, she would have been aged 13 and Patrick would have only been aged 10. This would have raised a few eyebrows!
Any suggestions?
I don't have a parish, just Mayo. The wedding was Crossboyne & Tagheen RC parish, so too was this Patrick's birth 10 years earlier
