I have a grandfather named William H. Donovan (1824-1879). I believe he was born in Ireland.

I'm not sure if he emigrated alone or with family.

He married Mahala McGuines, his second wife, in 1852 (Illinois, USA). They both died in 1879 due to "milk fever."

I'm looking for information on his family.

  • Prairie Mermaid:

Donovan is a very common surname in Ireland and was almost exclusively found in Co. Cork in the 19th century. You would need more information such as parents names to attempt to find where your ancestor was from in Ireland.

Have you considered a DNA test? You may get matches on your Donovan line that will help determine where William was from.

  • Yeah, I also agree with you here. He needs more information about his grandfather address find out. Without proper information it's very hard to find out the exact person. Thank you!
