I am wanting to find my grandmother's birth certificate but unfortunately i do not know the name of my great grandmother (her mother) so would like help in finding her, I believe she passed away in the 1960s.

My grandmother Anne (Annie) Delaney was born in Clogh Ireland in January 1922 and died in December 1986. She moved to Leeds in 1938 and married my grandfather walter stapylton, she later remarried a Timothy Bergin after my grandfather passed. She spent a lot of time travelling back and forth between Leeds and Laois to visit family over the years. But unfortunately my father has been unable to locate her birth certificate. I know her father was called Thomas Delaney and was a farmer. They were roman catholic and she had siblings called John, James, Tommy, Molly and another sister who I don't know the name of only that my father knew her as Aunt Dolly. Unfortunately I have not been able to find the birth registrations of any of the siblings either to help assist in my search. Any help or if anyone knows of any connections it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello,

Were all of Annie's siblings born in Clough in Laois?

Do you know the approx years of their births?

Any idea what Molly's full name was--perhaps Mary?

Names of Annie's children, in order?

    Thank you.

  • Yes I think they were all born in clough but can't be 100% certain.

My dad thinks James or John were the eldest (he thinks one of them was probably around 10 when Anne was born) and he knows Tommy was younger than Anne and possibly Molly too.

Unfortunately I do not know if Molly was short for Mary but if this is a common name associated with Molly then it could be likely.

Annie only had one child Anthony (Tony) Stapylton

Sorry I do not have more information

  • Hello,

I'm not finding an Annie in the Irish civil birth records with the birth date you provided. It is possible she was older or younger than she said.

Have you looked at Annie's headstone? the interment record? will? obituary/death notice? These sometimes provide helpful info. Also, her son's birth/baptism/marriage/death records might provide some info--just in case you have not looked at all of these. I hope this helps.
