Hi there,

Not looking for anything in particular but if anyone can add to the discussion, more than welcome -

9 Boherlahan baptisms (1828-1850) of Thomas Maher & Mary Myers.

(my Great Grandmother, Ellen Maher, 8th born, 1846).

Residence for all nine baptisms, Thurlesbeg.

No Maher-Myers marriage found, as yet.

Thomas dies early, and Mary and 3 of her children (Bridget, died 1865, John died 1921 & Ellen died 1932), move to Australia around 1862.

Mary dies in Melbourne in 1887 with the informant being 'cousin J White'.

I have ascertained that this J White had a connection to the White's from Roscrea ie Edward White (blacksmith, died 1861) m Margaret Kilfoyle/Guilfoyle in Roscrea, June 4, 1832. 8 children, all baptised Roscrea (1833-1851).

Similar to the Maher's, the mum (Margaret Guilfoyle White, up and left Ireland, arriving Melbourne, December 7 1861 on the Donald McKay/Mackay with 6 of her children (two of the children, Patrick White and Mary White, travelled independently).

That Patrick White (1833-1896) married a Margaret Maher (baptised Roscrea, September 18, 1832, daughter of Edward Maher - Winifred Sipple / Supple) in Melbourne in 1862 (his sister, Mary White being a witness) and then moved to the Tuapeka region of NZ where he was mainly a blacksmith, in the coach building industry. FYI, Margaret had two older siblings - Ben Maher, baptised October 31, 1828 - Roscrea & Ann Maher (baptised December 10, 1830 - Roscrea).

Meanwhile, back in Melbourne, the White's became huge in the coachbuilding industry (Trove, Daniel White, coachbuilder) with 3 brothers, Edward (1846-1931), Daniel (1834-1923)  and John (1839-1908) being involved.

Of late, I have seen an 1826 (February 6) Cashel Marriage of another Thomas Maher (of Thurlesbeg), and he marries Mary White of Cashel. Descendants look to have moved to Queensland - source ancestry.

So, I am probably not looking for a complete tie-up of who was who, but if anyone wants to add to the conversation or provide any further sources, suggestions that would be most welcome.

I can post files if requested.

Regards,

Brian B,

Australia
