Hi I was curious if there was any one out there that has Ward family from County Monaghan. My family immigrated from Monaghan during the Potato Famine to Tow Law Co. Durham, England after the potato famine.

Peter Ward is believed to be born between 1827-1830 who married Rebecca Mary Brett in 1857 in Tow Law , Co. Durham.

On the marriage certificate it says his father was Philip Ward and was an agricultural laborer and had died by the time of the marriage in 1857. It's unknown as to where or when he died.

I know there was a lot of Irish immigrants living in the area who worked in the coal industry  and would love to see if there's anyone on here with any info on Philip or Peter or any Monaghan Wards and if we share any relatives

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a Peter Ward baptismal record in Co. Monaghan with father Philip. Likely Peter was baptized in an RC parish that no longer has records back to the late 1820s.

Have you considered a general DNA test? Possibly you will have matches with distant Ward relations who have more info on the origin of the family in Ireland.

  • Hi Roger ! Thank you so much for taking the time and and searching. I have taken a DNA test and researched on Ancestry a few years back, but it would be a good idea to sign up for a new membership and see if there's any new DNA matches that could have connections to Monaghan.
