I am searching for a Michael Quinan/Queenan - sometimes spelled Cunnane who married  Catherine Timlin in 1829 in Bolypatrick, near Ballina in Co. Mayo. My DNA has directed me to him and I believe that he may be the brother or possibly 1st cousin to my ancestor Patrick Queenan, who was b. 1813/4 likely in Roscommon.

They were Catholic and I have the marriage information from 1829 as well as baptismal certificate info for 3 children all baptized in Kilmornay Parish...in or near BolyPatrick. On the first child's baptismal record for Dominick Queenan, one of the sponsors is Patrick or Patt Quinan...this is the only small connection that I have to this family from records.

Michael and his family seem move to Scotland in 1847 and settle in the Border Counties area...near Roxborough and there are reasonable records of his family there...but no indication of birth/baptism records place in Ireland.

As to my ancestor Patrick  Queenan, he arrived in Derby England in 1839/40 and married Mary Howard there in June 1840. I do have family records for the period of 1841 to 1852, census records and baptisms for the children...but all only give an indication of birth in Ireland. Patrick either dies in 1852/3 or leaves his family and goes elsewhere as I have not found any death record. it may have been the case of the poor man's divorce. Mary does remarry in 1859 in Derby.

I also have very small DNA connections to other Queenan families in Roscommone and Sligo...but they are not as significant as this one to Michael who marries in Bolypatrick.

Thank you for any assistance anyone can provide...as I would like to visit Ireland again to find their ancestral home.

Regards,

Sandi Cunliffe

I saw the 1829 marriage record but I did not see a baptismal record for any children of Michael Cunnane and Catherine Timlin. I did see the 1830 baptismal record for Dominick but the mother was shown as Barbara and one of the sponsors was a Catherine Timblan.

The subscription site Roots Ireland does have two Patrick Cunnan/Cunnane baptismal records in 1809 and 1810 in the RC parish of Elphin which is one of the few RC parishes in Roscommon which has early records.
