Hello, I am visiting Limerick in Jan 2025, and am hoping to find any info on the family of James Belcher. He had a son John approx 1832, daughter Margaret who married Patrick O'donnell 1849. John moved to London and married Caroline 1852. They had 12 children with one of them being my Grandfather John Belcher. The Belcher family appears to be a family of Tailors and perhaps had a shop in George St . I think they were Church of England or Methodist. Any assistance or info would be greatly appreciated. Would I have any luck searching churches for the birth or baptism of my Gt Great John Belcher born In Limerick. Regards Sally Belcher

Sally,
I found both a church record and civil record on RootsIreland (paid) for Margaret's wedding in 1849. As you mentioned, her father James was a tailor. Both Margaret and her husband Patrick O'Donell designated themselves as Roman Catholic and were married at St. Michael's Church in Limerick. Margaret's address was Market Alley, Limerick. She was a servant. Maybe, Margaret converted??
Not sure if James had another son. A James Belcher, tailor, Williams Street married Margaret Alfred, dressmaker, in 1855, in Limerick at St. Patrick's. They were both Church of Ireland.

Sally,
Please see attached 1911 Irish Census for James Belcher - Limerick City.
The surname "Belcher" was recorded in various parts of Ireland in the 1911 Irish Census.

Hello, Thank you everybody for all your assistance, it is greatly appreciated. Kiernan I have done as suggested for meet and greet. Eileen I think he is a son of James. So we have James, John and Margaret so far, Margaret converting to Catholicism when she married Patrick O'Donnell. I am assuming this is necessary to marry in a catholic church. James and Margaret Alfred are the parents of Charlotte and I believe had 4 other daughters. If I am correct this James died on 20 Dec 1920 at family burial ground in Kilmurry. Looks like I may also be visitng Kilmurry cemetery. A record or baptism would be eureka, how are my chances do you think?
