Galway County Council’s Record of Protected Structures and the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage have compiled a list of over 45 water pumps throughout Co. Galway. The images index here adds to this list. As part of a project to celebrate Heritage Week, we hope to further augment the index and document the existence of these pumps in North Galway. Their design and location tell the story of life in Ireland in a period before water was available in every household. The images were recorded in July 2015. GPS co-ordinates have also been listed so that anyone hoping to see these objects can do so. In May 2016, we shared our Newsletter "Water pumps- social hubs of their time" and our readers shared fantastic photos of water pumps they have come across around Ireland.
