John O'Neil was born in 1818 and baptized on 14 June 1818 in Dromin, Limerick, Ireland (Athlacca, Dromin and Athlacca).  His parents were given as Tymothei O'Neil and Mary Moylan.  He had the following siblings:  James, Thomas, Michael and Cathren to my knowledge.  They all died in the United States.

John wed Helena Farrell on 2 Dec 1845 in Croagh, Ireland, Ireland (Kilfinny) Limerick, Ireland.  According to Emigrant Bank Records John O'Neil arrived between 1848-1849 on the ship Consolation or Constellation to New York City.  His brother James immigrated on the ship Nero in 1839.

John and Ellen had six children:  Mary Ellen (my g grandmother), John Joseph, Catherine A., Michael J., James Joseph and Thomas Joseph.

From 1860-1864 John was stationed in Michigan to serve in the civil war.  His family resided there with him.

Shortly after returning to New York City, John founded the very successful O'Neil Transport, Shipping and Warehouse on Water Street in Manhattan.  His sons John, Michael and James carried on with the business.

John O'Neil died in Manhattan, New York City, New York on 31 March 1902 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, Queens, New York, USA
