Andrew Long was a weaver by trade. Father of eight, six born in Ireland The last two born in Connecticut USA, one shortly after his death of small pox. He married Eliza Petticrew in Lisburn on 20 March 1860. Both from the parish of Drumbeg; he from Ballymackinnon, Eliza from Drennan. After their marriage, they lived for a time in Magheraknock.
