Migrated to /Born in Canada

My 3rd GGF - Andrew McFarland was born about 1781 in Ireland.  Died abt 1856 in Alma, Albert, New Brunswick, Canada. Immigration records show they came to New Brunswick from Tyrone in 1833.

Andrew had at least three sons - King (1811), Andrew (1815) and William (1818-my line).  I've seen that King and Andrew may have been born in County Derry.

He may have a sister Ann, who married James Black and lived in New Brunswick

My family is Presbyterian in Canada and the US (Ohio then Wisconsin), so guessing they were Presbyterian in Ireland.

I haven't been able to find any records that show his parents or anything linking him to a county or parish or townland in Ireland, so looking for proof of parents, townland, etc before traveling to Northern Ireland this summer.

We have the name Armour a lot in the line, so the marriage to Mary Armour and brother named Armour has my gut thinking it's the right connection, but looking for proof.

Andrew's brother King had a son Armour, born in Omagh according to his obituary in New Brunswick, Canada.

  • Might Andrew have had a sister/cousin named Jane? Jane McFarland was born in the late 1700's and married Joseph Lawson. They emigrated to the US about 1838

  • It's possible, but I haven't found any records to document family in Ireland.  There are Jane's in the family I've found, but could be related to William's wife Catherine's mother as well.  Good luck!
