Anne O'Brien moved to Scotland shortly after marrying James Hand on 15 May 1878 at the Chapel of Maudabawn (Drumgoon) Cootehill. James had found employment as a labourer based in Montrose, in Scotland near Dundee assisting in the contruction of a railway being built there. Two girls were born in Montrose, Mary and Ann. By 1883 the family had moved to Coatbridge near Glasgow where James had found employment in the local ironworks.
Anne gave birth to six more children in Coatbridge, for a total of eight. Six grew to adulthood and produced a total of 17 grand-chidren.
Sadly Anne did not live to enjoy her grandchildren. She died in 1896, shortly after the birth of her youngest son, John.
John was sickly and taken to be looked after by his aunt Elizabeth Hand Kindelan at Laraweehan, Drumgoon. John did not get better and died in August 1896.
Anne's husband James died in Coatbridge in 1914.
