My great grandmother, Annie McMahon, was baptized at Newmarket on Fergus on September 29th, 1858, the daughter of Michael McMahon and Bridget Leahy (Leahy on the record but the family is recorded in various records in Newmarket and Ennistymon as Leahan, Leaheen, Leheen, Laheen, and Lehane). Her godparents were Thomas Daffy and Catherine McMahon. The Leahan family was believed to be from Rathfolan but I have not been able to ascertain which of the several Michael McMahons living in Newmarket at that time represents the correct one though I suspect it might be the Michael of Lisconor or Clonloghan (or perhaps they are the same person). Annie had a brother Patrick believed born about 1860 but I can find no record of his baptism. Annie emigrated to Brooklyn, NY, about 1880 where she had cousins - Thomas, Andrewm, and Annie Moroney, the children of Michael Moroney and Nora McMahon of Stonehall (though buried in Clonloghan).

Annie married a fellow Newmarket emigrant, John Ryan, the son of John Ryan and Mary Shannon, Baptized June 1857 at Newmarket, Her wedding was witnessed by her 1st cousin, Bridget Flanagan of Bartra, Lahinch (daughter of Murt Flanagan and Ann Lehane) and by Martin Shannon. John and Annie McMahon Ryan had 3 children all born in Brooklyn - Edward John, my grandfather (1893), Michael Joseph (1894) and Annie (1903). John Ryan died at Brookly in 1923, Annie died at Brooklyn in 1944. I would like to verify which Micahel McMahon was her father and find the townland she hailed from. I have relatives in Newmarket though Annie's mother, Bridget Lehane, but they do not know the history of her father.
