Arthur emigrated to Pennsylvania as a child with his parents and several older siblings in 1863. He married Julia Mossop, an American-born daughter of a family who emigrated to the US from Limerick. They had seven children, but Arther died at just 40 years old in June 1900 of typhoid fever. His youngest child was born four months after his death.
