Bernard Vergis was born about 1834-on his British Army enlistment he stated he was born in Kildare, but there are no records of any Vergis' s there only Vergus. He enlisted in 1858, got married in St James Church in South Dublin in 1868, was recorded in Aldershot Barracks in England in the 1871 census with his wife and 1st born child Mary or Maria. He served for 20 years and his next 2 children were born in India & Pakistan. On his return to Dublin, he resided in Irwin Street, a street of tenament housing.He died in April 1907.
