Brian James Brophy (also known as James) was born in the Cobh area around 1902. He was the eldest son of Daniel Brophy of the Royal Garrison Artillery, born in Fermoy in November 1867 and Jane (née unknown) Brophy born in Belagavi/Belgaum, India (abt 1875). He had multiple siblings namely Mary Jane, Daniel, Johanna and John and Elizabeth (she isborn later and does not appear on census).
Brian James Brophy was an Ex British Army man and later joined the National Army in 1922 at the rank of Corporal in Kilkenny where his family moved to sometime between 1911 and 1919
