Bridget McLoughlin was born in 1858 in the small townland of Kiltrustan, just outside Strokestown, in the county of Roscommon, Ireland. She was the child of small farmer James McLoughlin and his young wife Bridget Igo. Her siblings included Anne, Agnes, James, Patrick, Frances(Fanny) and Daniel. She was born to a very poor family in the years after the Great Famine.
About 1880, Bridget and her sister Fanny left home along with their neighbour Thomas Diffley, to immigrate to Australia, a rising colony. They lived in Carlton, Victoria. On 6 Jun 1881, Bridget married Thomas.

Thomas Diffley B. 1885
Tragically, Bridget's husband died around the time of her youngest childs birth in 1885, leaving her a widow with small children in a still strange country. Her sister Fanny also married Robert Lind Scott the same year and after having four children, decided to leave for the United States. Bridgets youngest son Thomas, named for his father, died on 12 Feb 1886 as a baby.
Bridget stayed behind in Australia and remarried the Swedish Carl Pieter Anderson on 14 November 1889. They had at least two children, Mary Agnes(1890) and Carl James(1894), both born in Melbourne.
Bridget died 18 April 1923 at 55 Tivoli Road, South Yarra, Melbourne, Australia.
