  • Breedoge appears to be a locality made up of a number of townlands.

In irishgenealogy.ie    Civil Records section  I have spotted a birth record for a

Kate Cregg born to Darby Cregg and Margaret Cregg (Nee Ownes) in the townland of Finisclin which I guess is in the locality of Breedoge.

DOB 15 July 1880 Link below:-

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

    I have seen siblins:

    Bridget 27 March 1866

    James 15 October 1867

    Jane 05 March 1869

    Margaret 12 March 1873

    Mary 27 April 1876

    John 17 June 1878

    Michael 09 May 1875

The first 4 were noted as location Breedoge While for the latter four  Finisclin was mentioned.

There well may have been more children I only cheched a number of years 1864 - 1880 in the Civil Records.

There may be more in the Church Records.

In the 1901 Census Margaret (Widow) Age 69 is living with 3 sons James 40, Michael 34 and John 32.

  • Thank you for this information. I am just beginning to gather evidence for the names of my grandmother's parents.

There seems to be two possibilities for each parent.

Hopefully, this will help to narrow the choice.

    Thank You!

  • I just checked Finisclin and the location agrees with the property where we were told my grandmother's childhood home was located.

It is just down the lane from the St Bridgets Church in Breedoge.

  • If you know the location where your ancestor lived you could contact the Cancelled Land Valuation Office in Dublin and request them to forward you a copy of the map for the precise location and the pages for that particular townland . The records commence c. 1856 and were updated every 5 - 10 years giving the name of the person who paid rent on their property and how much land they farmed.
It would help if you have both the name of the townland and the name of the Parish and County.
I believe there is a nominal charge for this service.
